The May Week Committee presented the Honorable Delta Dear Award to Janie Sanders!

Janie retired from Jackson Public Schools (JPS) in 2016, after serving over 40 years in the school system. Since her retirement, she has continuously served in the community and the JPS school system by teaching, tutoring, and whatever else she was asked to assist with. She has recently worked with the 21st Century Tutoring program, which is a resource provided for JPS students. she ahs also worked over the last few years with Tougaloo Talent Search.

Janie continues her commitment to youth by answering every call she receives to help the youth in JPS and the community, along with the young teachers employed by JPS and various other districts due to her many years of experience in the field. She keeps in touch with former students and continues to mentor them.

In addition to her work in education, she has worked tirelessly serving on committees in the Jackson (MS) Alumnae Chapter. Her service includes the Pan-Hellenic Council, May Week Committee, and Fundraising Committee.
